"Every gift counts" isn't just a cliché at The University of Texas-Pan American. Regardless of the size of your gift, you can make a powerful impact on the University and on the lives of the students and faculty who are the heart of UT Pan American.

With an annual commitment through the UTPA Foundation, you can support vital scholarships and fellowships, help fund special programs that enrich the academic experience, provide the faculty the resources to stay on the cutting edge in their fields and ensure that President Robert S. Nelsen is able to take advantage of special opportunities that come UTPA’s way.

Unrestricted Gifts

There are as many opportunities to support the University as there are people and programs. Unrestricted gifts through the President’s Circle and the UTPA Annual Fund are especially important today considering the reductions in state appropriations and investment income. Giving the Foundation and the University the flexibility to direct such contributions where most needed is an additional gift in itself.

Annual Fund Phonathon

annual-fund-phonathonIf you see on your caller ID that The University of Texas-Pan American is calling, make sure you take the time to pick up the phone and chat with the University’s very own Bronc Callers, who will be asking for your support and sharing their own student experiences with you during the Annual Fund Phonathon.

The Phonathon is underwritten by the UT Pan American Foundation as a way to raise funds for the University’s Annual Fund program, an ongoing campaign that helps ensure UTPA students a rewarding and enriching academic experience. Gifts to the Annual Fund support student and faculty development, help attract nationally known faculty, support student activities and enrich academic programs. Such gifts are generally unrestricted and can be used immediately where most needed.

President's Circle

The President’s Circle at UT Pan American is truly that – a “circle” of very special friends who are dedicated to ensuring a bright future for the University while at the same time giving the gift of education to the many talented students who choose to study here.

The Trustees of the UTPA Foundation invite you to join us in supporting President Robert S. Nelsen and his extraordinary work on behalf of the University and all of South Texas. With an unrestricted annual gift of $1,000 or more to the President’s Circle, you can join an ever-growing number of alumni and friends who are providing Dr. Nelsen the flexibility to address one-time needs and take advantage of special programs and other unexpected opportunities that will enhance the teaching and learning environment for our faculty and students.   (link to separate President’s Circle page, which will have more detail about giving levels, etc.)

Angel Investor - Making a Difference in Student Excellence

The Angel Investor program is supported by UTPA faculty and staff who see the need to invest in our staff and the University itself. The program created the Angel Investor Scholarship, which provides scholarships for UTPA staff taking courses at UTPA. This scholarship program is very special because it is funded solely by UTPA faculty and staff whose generous donations provide financial assistance to the students they serve and financial support for the betterment of the University. UTPA faculty and staff know just how hard it is to pay for a University education and how important every contribution is.

UTPA staff and faculty have always stepped up to help others. Contributions can be a one-time donation or spread out over the year through payroll deduction. Scholarships bring the highest and greatest long-term returns of any investment one can make and are the impetus for an incredible chain reaction leading to dramatic social and economic growth. The Angel Investor Program draws and keeps a strong, professional staff at the University. It also creates an educated, skilled labor pool. All your contributions are tax-deductible.

Donors to this fund have many choices for how their gift can be used. Gifts may be designated to UTPA staff scholarships, student scholarships in a particular college, Bronc Athletic Fund Drive, or UTPA's greatest need – unrestricted funds.

Academic Innovation Fund

microscopeThe UTPA Foundation sets aside special unrestricted funding each year for the deans of the seven academic colleges and the University Library so that they, too, can take advantage of special opportunities that will enhance the University’s academic programs. Gifts may be made to the Foundation and designated for the Academic Innovation Fund, which benefits the following:

Restricted Gifts

While the UTPA Foundation’s preference is for unrestricted gifts, which provide more flexibility in their benefit to the University, the uses of gifts may be specified for a wide range of purposes such as scholarships, faculty development, professorships, book funds, or University-approved building funds.

Restriction in Uses

Nondiscrimination Policy: The UTPA Foundation follows federal and state guidelines governing nondiscrimination and will not accept any gift that contains unlawful restrictions.

Scholarships and Financial Aid: There are certain specific restrictions on gifts for scholarships. Restrictions on Gifts with Personal Benefit: In order to retain the tax deductibility of a charitable gift, the donor may neither derive personal benefit not maintain control over the funds.

Gift Agreements: Gift agreements for endowed or expendable funds created in the UTPA Foundation should be drafted by the UTPA Office of University Development after consultation with the donor and will clearly define the donor’s intent in regard to restrictions in use. Matching Gifts

One way to multiply the impact of any gift to benefit UT Pan American is through a matching gift from your employer. Many companies have established matching gift programs that allow them to double or even triple the financial assistance their employees provide to educational and charitable organizations. So, when making a gift to the UTPA Foundation, make sure you contact your human resources office to find out whether your employer will match your contribution.
